the future of chicago fashion party...
on thursday night, the gals and i headed out to the future of chicago fashion party hosted by new city and chicago fashion foundation. the venue, the rockwell lounge, was dope... nice size, not too large and not too trendy... the beers were good and free... and of course the company was great!
so let me ask this question: what is the future of chicago fashion?

uniqlo x pantone...

i am huge fan of uniqlo and their signature cashmere sweaters... the color options are endless!
this fall, in conjunction with the opening of the london store, uniqlo has teamed up with pantone (world-renowned authority on color) for the second time for a special collection of pantone-inspired cashmere. the collection will offer a deep v-neck style for the ladies, in 20 official pantone colors. each sweater in the pantone collection will bear a small woven tag resembling the iconic pantone chip with the uniqlo logo inside. the 100% cashmere sweaters will retail for $129.50 and be sold exclusively at the uniqlo new york flagship, the ut store, and uniqlo japan.

akira, hennessy, & pf flyers present 4th annual garden of eden fashion show...
chicago's most fashionable were present for an evening of style courtesy of akira, last night. akira's 4th annual garden of eden fashion show took place at galleria marchetti and featured designs by ben sherman and pf flyers. the ford models walked the runway for a great cause, as proceeds benefited imerman angels, a not-for-profit organization that pairs cancer-fighters with cancer-survivors to help them battle the disease.
although there were some great looks shown, the fashion show was extremely long. most shows last a mere 10-15 minutes (if that), but models walked the runway for an hour (or more). in addition to the runway, there was a performance from an opera singer, accompanied by a violinist, a ballet performance, as well as, a mini concert by an artist whose name i cannot remember. so i guess you can say it was an evening of entertainment.
i must say, the chicago fashion scene is like no other. fashion events in the city bring out all kind of characters but it feels good to see that the industry is growing.

the girls are back in town!
i have been waiting for this movie for what? almost 4 years now...
sex and the city: the movie is set to hit theatres may 2008!
the gang is back together and shooting in nyc right now. not much of the plot has been released yet; however, i do know that chicago's own, jennifer hudson, will be playing carrie's assistant. also, there have been rumors going around that although carrie's career is taking off, there are potential problems with her love life... (typical).
stay tuned!

skincare 101: penny-saver face cleansers...
i'm frequently asked (by one good friend in particular) for recommendations on great skincare and cosmetic products. since i am a huge product junkie and willing to try almost any and every new product, i guess that would make me a somewhat trusted source.
the latest question posed was about face cleanser... what's a great cleanser/toner that can be found at your local drugstore... when your pockets are in a pinch? well ladies, there are tons of options. although i live by mario badescu and am a huge fan of kiehls and carol's daughter's skincare line, in a bind, i know i can always find some decent products at walgreens or cvs.
for oily skin, neutrogena's oil-free acne wash cream cleanser is great. i love that although it is a cream cleaner, it still lathers up and leaves your skin feeling super clean. you must follow up with a good moisturizer (always), especially with this cleanser.

for dry skin, cetaphil gentle skin cleanser works wonders! it's even mild enough for sensitive skin. cetaphil leaves your skin feeling clean but does not strip your faces natural oils.

for sensitive skin, aveeno's ultra-calming foaming cleanser is a great choice. it is gentle cleanser that contains feverfew, which helps reduce redness and calm irritated, sensitive skin.

alright ladies, those are my three penny-saver recommendations... don't forget the moisturizer!

fashionation gets real...

fashionation normally likes to keep our content very light; however, we must interrupt our regular programming to shed some light on a very unfortunate situation taking place in the southern region of our country... by now must of us have heard about jena 6. for those of you who have not, here is the background on the case:
Last fall, when two Black high school students sat under the "white" tree on their campus, white students responded by hanging nooses from the tree. When Black students protested the light punishment for the students who hung the nooses, District Attorney Reed Walters came to the school and told the students he could "take [their] lives away with a stroke of [his] pen." Racial tension continued to mount in Jena, and the District Attorney did nothing in response to several egregious cases of violence and threats against black students. But when a white student--who had been a vocal supporter of the students who hung the nooses--taunted a black student, allegedly called several black students "nigger", and was beaten up by black students, six black students were charged with second-degree attempted murder. Last month, the first young man to be tried, Mychal Bell, was convicted. He faces up to 22 years in prison for a school fight.Source: Justice in Jena website
On September 20th, Mychal Bell--the first of the Jena 6 to be convicted--is scheduled for sentencing. If the District Attorney has his way, Mychal will face 22 years in prison. It's a horrifying moment for Mychal, his parents, and the rest of the Jena 6 families. It's also a perfect time for those who can to come to Jena, in person, and stand with them. Thousands of people across the country have already signed up to come to Jena. Please join us on Sept. 20th ...
while we all cannot make the journey to jena, we can still show our support by wearing black tomorrow, sept. 20th or even better, make a donation to their legal defense fund.
fashion can speak loud tomorrow!
