the black runway

there has been some recent chatter about the lack of black models on the runways, in the ads, and on the pages of popular fashion magazines. with BET's special feature documentary that aired a few weeks ago (see more here), Italian Vogue's July issue featuring almost nothing but black models, and Chanel Iman taking the fashion world by storm, I thought I take some time and highlight some not so familiar black faces that have been pushing their way to top and holding it down for all those gorgeous black woman that look just as amazing in their just cavalli shorts and marc jacobs stilletos as any one else- have a look- thank you

not sure how many know but another nick name of mine is mary-kate- lol!! THANKS SUSAN! i love her! we are both tiny people, lol!

a few years ago when i was walking in tribeca and saw this tiny person with TONS of clothes on walking a dog i thought to myself, wow look at this homeless woman and her dog! it's one thing to be homeless, but then to be homeless with a dog! that's another story- but then i got closer and said oh! this isn't a homeless woman, its MARY KATE!! i think that's when the obession started... lol so here are a few of my favorite shots of her, and when i say i love her, i mean it, i have a book of collages of only her, hahaha, yes i do, for real!!

Boozey hits Paris!

Ali Madigan is not only a funky street wear designer who stays in her boozey chain but a true artist who's in love with her craft.

Known as the "art kid" in school growing up in the sunny skies of Cali, Ali has been making clothes since the age of seven. Coming up from making jackets for her dolls to printed hoodies that are rocked by M.I.A. With "First Born" her first collection being sold out within a day things are looking bright for Ali along with the anticipation from her fans of what's to come in her next collection!

So how did this chick from the Bay area end up in Paree'? Traveling around with her buddy Kesh they landed in Paris for some gigs in DJing. While her friend was doing her thing in the clubs Ali had plans to stay behind on the next trip due to the inspiration she felt in the city of Paris.

With most of her pieces and samples in London Ali tells it all for what's to come in her new collection. "It's alot less street wear and more feminine pieces,"said Ali.
With her previous collection originally made for men Ali was fascinated by the majority of her clients being female which then turned her "First Born" collection as unisex. The female love she received from her collection inspired her next one to be fun and sexy for the ladies. But don't worry for all the "hood" lovers she will continue printed hoodies as a separate collection.
Ali will return to the states by the end of this summer with hopes of opening a studio in NYC.

*For all the aspiring street wear designers Ali says "Do what you could do if you couldn't fail"
